Japanese Sakiori Weaving - Tote bag

Japanese Sakiori Weaving - Tote bag

Sakiori (裂き織り, literally "tear weaving") is a traditional Japanese textile technique that originated in northern Japan during the Edo period (1603–1868) and became widespread in the late 19th to early 20th centuries.

Since the 1980s–1990s it has been revived as a craft and art form used by textile artists and eco-fiber workshops in Thailand especially in Chiang Mai who have learned sakiori from Japanese teachers and incorporated it into modern upcycled fashion and home goods.
